Happy New Year all, I would like to first again thank our speakers that we have had so far this year, John Abrahamian of Shainin LLC, Tom Berstene of WorkForce Planning Associates, Inc and Joe DeFeo of the Juran Institute for their presentations. The following events are planned for the remainder of the 2009/2010 Year: January 14th we are very pleased to have as our speaker Mr. Shin Taguchi. Shin carries on this father’s Genichi Taguchi’s work. February 11th we will have Tom Southworth as our featured speaker on the subject of Training within Industry (TWI). March 11th our presenter will be Len Deneault, Executive Director for Mass Excellence which is the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’s Malcolm Baldrige award. April 6th we are please to once again host a North East Quality Council [NEQC]/Hartford Section Seminar. The main subject will be on Lean Six Sigma for Insurance, Manufacturing and Service Industries. One of our speakers/presenters is Steve Hodlin, Vice President of Business Excellence, DST Output LLC. We are planning on another speaker but that hasn’t been confirmed as of this update. Jay Patel, NEQC Chair, is planning on someone from Mass Mutual. Jay will also be presenting a workshop on Value Stream Mapping as part of this seminar. The April 6th evening speaker will be announced later, as we will have our regular dinner meeting following the conclusion of the seminar. Our Dinner meeting will start at the normal time. The starting times and prices for the seminar will be announce later once we set the prices. May 13th we will be having our yearly plant tour which has yet to be confirmed. June 10th meeting will be an extended event. We are once again pleased to offer something new to our Section members this year, a Quality Café. This is a special offering from ASQ Headquarters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Hartford Section will also have our customary recognition for our Quality Individual or Group of the year. It is not too early to submit a co-worker or group for this award and recognition, please see our website for an application. ASQ Headquarters hasn’t yet posted who passed the last exam, however I will be working on that information as soon as the holiday period is over so we can celebrate their success. We still seem to have an information flow issue with HQ. As soon as I have the official listing I will list them and send them the voucher for the free meeting. The last piece of this message is something that is very important to the Hartford Section Leadership team and to ASQ Headquarters. Membership renewals and contact information updates. We have been asked to remind our members who are currently unemployed that the Society does have a program to help members with their dues. That program is administered by ASQ Headquarters only and we can’t do anything on the Section level. Updating your contact information is vital to keeping you as a member of this Society informed. Our concern is that with any breaks in membership can lead to loss of status as a Senior Member, as well as advancement to Fellow Member status. I invite comments and suggestions from our members with regards to putting on a workshop to assist members who are currently unemployed. NEQC does run various workshops to help members in the greater Boston area. If there is a need to run the same here in the Hartford area, we can arrange something. However, we do need feedback as to what that need might be. Please feel free to contact me at
