Happy Halloween and Fall to all, I would like to thank Tricia McNair for starting off our 2010-2011 fiscal year. She did a wonderful job with her presentation on Risk Management for Product Development. She came down from the Boston area to do this presentation. Our October 14th meeting will feature Greg Hildebrand of Pratt & Whitney. Greg is also a valuable member of your Hartford ASQ Leadership team. Greg will be talking about “A-3 Management”. A3 Management is a Lean management philosophy that ensures a scientific method for problem solving and promotes communication, learning, and a lean transformation.” This quote is from Greg as an explanation of this presentation. “Some companies in the area are starting to look at this as continuation of or building on existing effort in improvement.” We are hoping to offer a course on this subject which we will talk about at the next meeting. For November’s meeting, we have an interesting guest who will be traveling in from the Philadelphia area to talk with us. Tom Berstene has made arrangement with Mr. Izzy Gesell, a well known humorist and presenter, to give us a presentation on November 11, Veterans Day. Your Leadership team is made up of several veterans of our Armed Forces. Since the events of September 11th we have grown to once again appreciate what these folks have done for us with their service to us or should I say U.S. Thank you all for your service to this country of ours. We do not meet in December as the holidays grow near however, the Leadership Team will be meeting to work out the details for the remainder of the fiscal year 2010-2011. The Leadership team does meet at least once every month so that our section continues to meet the requirements of ASQ Headquarter in Milwaukee and the needs of our members in the Greater Hartford area. Our Membership Chair, Tyler Brush and our Voice of the Customer Chair, Greg Hildebrand will be rolling out surveys which will provide us with some direction that you the members would like your section. We need your ideas and suggestions on subjects to be covered, on which days we should meet and other questions. Headquarters will once again be picking some members to give HQ and us feedback on the direction of our Society. Please take the time to respond to these surveys. The next request I have for the membership is to please nominate someone for our yearly award for the Quality Person. Also please remember that it is never too early to put in someone. The port of entry is always up as are our efforts with the Dorian Shainin Medal. They are always at the bottom of the main webpage year round. Please nominate someone today.
