April Chair's Message PDF Print E-mail
Happy Spring all,
As this record-breaking winter ends, spring is finally here.
I would like to thank you, the members of the Hartford section, who have come out to attend our meetings even with short notice.  We the member leaders of the Hartford ASQ section are working to improve our message delivery methods.  We are relying more on electronic means than on paper and the US Mail.  We will be polling our section for the best means to communicate with all members.
I would like to thank Mike Schulde for his presentation on corrective action for our meeting on March tenth.  Our next meeting will be on April fourteenth and our presenters will be Dennis Gareau and Tom Gallagher on, the subject near and dear to ASQ Headquarters, Social Responsibility.  ASQ has taken the lead on this ISO initiative.  The Hartford Section leadership decided to take on making this presentation with ASQ HQ supplied material. We will be posting a MS PowerPoint presentation on this subject on the section’s website.
May will bring our plant tour which will be made public as soon as we have confirmed the final arrangements.  Our June speaker has been yet to be setup and will also be published as soon as we make the final arrangements.  This meeting will mark the end of this fiscal year and the end of my four years as your Section Chair.  Tom Berstene will be taking over as Chair on July first.
With that I would like to make the call once again for volunteers to come forward. With this dynamic economy we have lost some folks due to downsizing and job reassignment. We are looking for folks to step forward to keep this section viable. As one of the Deputy Regional Directors for Region 1, I get to attend the monthly Section Affairs Committee meetings. We currently have roughly seven sections nationwide that could be heading toward disillusionment.  If we are going to keep the Hartford Section viable we need new members to come forward to help out.  We have been awarded both the Total Quality Award and the Gold Level Excellence award for our efforts for last year.
Once again I will also mention that in our June meeting we will be awarding our Quality Person or group of the year. Please consider someone today. Some years we have a lot to pick from and sometimes we don’t have enough to pick from. The Hartford Section leadership can and does make other recognition for special cases. So if a person or team doesn’t make the top award we can make special awards to recognize those who certainly deserve recognition for a job well done.
A couple of other points I want to make, one is ASQ HQ has once again decided to raise the dues across the board by three dollars. We do have a small loyal group of paid professionals in Milwaukee. I don’t have to remind everyone that the cost of doing business has been going up and everyone will be feeling the new health care changes that are coming. We all know that is the tip of the iceberg.
My second point I would like to make is more of a personal one to my dear friend Robyn Warwick. She had become a member of ASQ/ Hartford Section and volunteered to help me with the welcoming table at the start of our monthly meetings. Robyn had been advised that her Quality position had been eliminated and she accepted another position on a shift that makes continuing on with the Hartford Section impossible.  So I would like to thank her for a job well done. Robyn had started to make some process improvements that will be continued.
Look forward to seeing everyone at our next meeting,
Thanks and Have a great day
