October 13th. 2011 - Everything You Wanted to Know About OSHA PDF Print E-mail

With a US labor force of over 150 million people our nation’s work force is our largest and most valuable resource.  Not until 1970 however, did workforce safety and health hazard standards become enacted by congress.  Until this point:

  • Job related accidents accounted for more than 14,000 worker deaths
  • Nearly 2 ½ million workers were disabled.
  • Ten times as many person-days were lost from job-related disabilities as from strikes.
  • Estimated new cases of occupational diseases totaled 300,000.

To address these realities, congress established the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to encourage employers and employees to reduce workplace hazards and to implement/improve existing safety & health programs, provide research into occupational safety and establish "separate but dependent responsibilities and rights" for employers and employees for the achievement of better safety and health conditions.

Please join us on October 13th, 2011 at the Adams Mill Restaurant in Manchester as we are proud to host Jeff Carter of the Connecticut Occupational Safety and Health Administration who will provide greater insight these initiatives and more!

Jeff has been a safety consultant with Connecticut OSHA for 16 years and has conducted over 900 site visits, revealing over 2000 safety hazards.   He has also conducted training in OSHA Standards and has worked in construction, sheet metal fabrication, jet engine repair facilities, wood working and precision gauging industries.
