Job description:     Quality Engineer (Engineering Department)

Education:
    B. S. and/or equivalent experience

Experience:    Five to ten years experience in manufacturing, with at least three of these in a quality engineer role

Reports to:    Quality Engineering Lead

Required Skills/Knowledge:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of drawing, dimensioning and feature definition methods and symbolism, including GD&T
  • Experience with a wide variety of visual and dimensional inspection methods and equipment as well as an understanding of the strengths and limitations of each
  • Possess an quantitative understanding of measurement precision, accuracy, and uncertainty and the ability to optimize measurement effectiveness
  • Skilled in the analysis and presentation of metrological and process data, including basic population statistics and process capability analysis
  • Understanding of and experience with DoE methods and analysis
  • Utilize of personal computers in a networked environment including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Internal Auditing skills focusing on the standards of an ISO 9001 and 13485-registered environment

Additional Skills/Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with the inspection of molded plastic components, understanding the unique attributes contributed by the injection molding process
  • Fluency in DOE (preferably DesignExpert) and SPC software

Responsibilities:
  • Working with customer and/or other project contacts, define accurately and comprehensively, the quality requirements of the subject component or assembly
  • Develop, test, qualify, and document the methods to assess part quality against established or negotiated visual, dimensional, and -functional specifications
  • Provide process analysis support to Process Engineers, including DOE set-up and analysis
  • Create comprehensive quality plan, incorporating all specifications, methods, fixtures, and reference samples prior to transfer to manufacturing
  • Summarize and record mold qualification activities in report format for customer or internal approval
  • Identify and collaborate with outside testing and inspection suppliers and service providers as needed
  • Actively participate in ongoing, company-wide improvement efforts
  • Proactively notify project manager of any problems or delays that will impact the project team’s ability to meet project commitments
  • Comply with established company practices, policies and documented procedures
  • Conduct internal audits as assigned by the company’s Quality Assurance Manager
