Job Description
 
Alstom Thermal Power Gas Business North America is seeking a Senior Quality Engineer to join our team engaged in serving the combined-cycle power plant market.  This position will report to the Head of Quality & EHS North America and will be located at our Windsor, CT facility.
 
This role is responsible for planning and carrying out assigned quality management activities as a key participant in the development, deployment and maintenance of the Region's Quality Management System.  Will develop and facilitate implementation of operational procedures and processes aligned with ISO certification standards, corporate and business directives, and the Region's performance goals.  Will also serve as an expert in root cause analysis as well as guide and support corrective action efforts.      
 
Primary responsibilities:
  • Participate in the development of the Region's Quality Management System ensuring alignment with ISO certification standards, corporate and business directives/procedures, and the Region's performance goals;
  • Guide and oversee deployment and maintenance of the Region's Quality Management System in collaboration with the various functional groups;
  • Develop Quality Management System documentation in accordance with ISO9001:2008 & ISO 14001:2004.
  • Audit compliance and effectiveness of departmental practices to identify risks and opportunities related to quality and conformance to established processes or procedures and surface required corrective or preventative actions;      
  • Perform root cause analysis investigations as a team lead and provide support in determining appropriate corrective action programs in collaboration with functional groups;  
  • Conduct effectiveness reviews of implemented corrective action plans to determine whether successful or if further action is required;
  • Conduct regular analysis and performance reporting on the Region's KPI business process metrics;  
  • Guide and administer assigned portions of the Region's process improvement plan;  
  • Domestic and international travel to company, supplier and customer sites as required.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent;
  • Minimum of 5 to 8 years of technical experience including direct involvement in the development and maintenance of quality systems and processes, preferably in the power generation field or other heavy equipment industry;          
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the development of a comprehensive Quality Management System and deployment of related procedures complying with ISO 9001:2008 & ISO 14001:2004;
  • Skilled in successful root cause analysis and in establishment of corrective action programs.  Working knowledge of "8-D" or "Drill Down Table" tools for root cause analysis is desirable;
  • Understanding of consensus standards on quality assurance such as ASME B&PV Code, ISO 9001/4001, ANSI/ASME NQA-1;
  • Additional QA qualifications such as ASQ-certified quality engineer or auditor, lead auditor per ANSI/ASME, and/or Six Sigma certification are a plus;  
  • Skilled at engaging operations in identifying and addressing quality-related issues;   
  • Excellent technical writing and presentation skills;
  • Advanced computer skills including but not limited to:  MS Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint; Visio; Minitab 16
