The Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) was created approximately 25 years ago by the automotive industry as a way to validate production readiness to engineering & quality requirements. Over the last five years, PPAP has also become a central focus of product and process validation prior to serial production in the aerospace industry. Recently , the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) released AS9145, entitled “Requirements for APQP and PPAP”. Steve Webster of UTAS, will speak on what the chief components of APQP and PPAP are, their inter-relationship, and what it takes to be successful at the implementation of each. When they work together, the two form a chief part of a company’s risk management strategy.

Uncertainty and Risk are topics that have broad implications in many areas of modern
life. In recent times, these ideas have also gained increasing treatment in the quality
sciences including the current edition of ISO9001. Many companies are concerned with
the risk of product failure in the field, process failures as well as safety concerns about
product use. This course looks at uncertainty and risk both generally and in a broad
range of applications. We consider how these concepts are defined and used in various
quarters as well as their relation to quality and quality management. We also consider
topics and tools in probabilistic risk and safety assessment. Attendees will also have
an opportunity to discuss and lay out their individual risk concerns in order to better
prepare for applications in their companies.
